The difference between a fitted sheet and a flat sheet

A fitted sheet is shaped like a mattress with rounded edges. Fitted sheets have one main purpose – to create a comfortable barrier between you and your mattress. Just about every bed has a fitted sheet on, but flat sheets aren’t entirely as common. A flat sheet is a bit more versatile. It can be folded around the sides of a mattress to serve as a fitted sheet, or it can be used in conjunction with a fitted sheet. When both of these sheets are used, people usually lie underneath the flat sheet and on top of the fitted sheet. In warm weather conditions, some choose to sleep with just the flat sheet to cover them. Flat sheets were created to separate the sleeper and the blankets or duvet from each other, much like a duvet cover does.

Tip for preventing stains

You shouldn’t allow a stain to ruin your double fitted sheet unnecessarily. There are many stain removing products on the market and more than enough tips and tricks to remove them with everyday household items, such as vinegar and baking soda.

It is also up to you to decide how to go about in removing stains. If you act quickly, you might be able to prevent stains completely.

Let’s create our own scenario… It’s a cold winter morning and you are lying in bed with a warm cup of coffee. The bark of the neighbour’s dog startles you and suddenly your coffee has left a proper spill on your fitted sheet. No need to worry – just remove the sheet immediately and rinse it with water.

If you afraid that the coffee will still leave a stain – rub some baking soda onto the spill, leave it for a few minutes and then proceed to rinse it properly.

After you’ve washed and dried your double fitted sheet, make sure that the stain is gone. If there is a stain, treat it again. Do not iron the sheets before the stain has been removed completely.
