How to Make the Most Out of a Mattress and Bed Sale

Author imageThe Mattress Warehouse

So you have a few questions about an upcoming bed sale, right? You might be wondering if you actually save any money during a sale. Or maybe you are always on the lookout for a better deal and can’t seem to settle on a specific bed or mattress.

If you have doubts like these, you are in the right place. Keep on reading as The Mattress Warehouse explains how to get the best deal out of a mattress and/or bed sale.

Have a strategy: it really works

A lot of negativity towards “special sales” comes from people who buy impulsively. You see, buying something in the heat of the moment because it is advertised as being on sale for a special price is not always wise. That is why you have to approach sales like these with a strategy. To benefit from a sale, you have to prepare for it well in advance.

Here’s how:

1. Be aware of when the next big bed sale is coming around

There are certain seasons and days that are always accompanied by big sales. For instance Black Friday. You can be sure that there will be multiple sales on in November this year (and the next, and the next).

2. Set a budget

Now that you know when the next special sale is, decide on how much money you are willing to spend to get that new bed or mattress. And you can set up a realistic budget by following step 3 below:

3. Research price tags on beds for sale

If you are in the market for a new bed or mattress, it is a great idea to start looking at what they cost months before the sale starts. In this way, you’ll get a good idea of price tags and so you’ll easily be able to spot a real money-saving deal.

Be present online

Reading reviews help to identify good quality beds

Arguably, this could also be part of your preparation strategy. But because being present online encompasses more than merely looking at price tags, we’ll spend some more time on how to go about it.

1. Sign up for newsletters

We know having an inbox full of junk emails is super annoying. However, it might not be a bad idea to sign up for a couple of weekly newsletters from reputable bed retailers. Like this, you get pretty much get a weekly summary of what’s going on in the world of mattresses and beds for sale.

2. Follow bed makers and retailers on social media

Sounds a bit lame, we know. Who wants their Instagram feed to be interrupted by adverts about a bed sale? Well, if you want to get a new bed, social media is actually a good place to do some research as you can easily follow various brands and keep tabs on their different going rates.

3. Review, review, review

Search for reviews on the bed brands that you are interested in. Nowadays there are reviews everywhere, so it isn’t even hard to come by. Trusted sites like hellopeter deliver great, unbiased reviews that will give you a good indication of the quality of a mattress brand. You can also look at product reviews and customer feedback on Facebook to get a better feel for the bed brand that tickles your fancy.

4. Bookmark your favourites

When you come across a very specific item that you are looking for, like a single bed for sale at a great price, we suggest that you bookmark the page. With hundreds of internet searches every day, it is easy to lose track of the websites that you visit so make sure you don’t forget what that fantastic bed is!

Understand the return policy and warranty

Before you impulsively buy a bed, read through the bed retailer’s return policy and the bed’s service warranty/guarantee. The last thing you want is to buy a bed or mattress because the price tag looks too good to be true, and then when you realise it is too good to be true, you can’t get your money back.

In general, cheaper mattresses and beds have a limited warranty that doesn’t cover more than a couple of years. However, most decent beds have a year guarantee and anything between a 5 and a 10-year service warranty that covers manufacturing errors and defects. Typically, if your mattress gets damaged from something that you or yours did, the warranty won’t cover the damages.

Because mattresses are prone to getting skin particles, sweat and sometimes other fluids on them, most bedding companies require that you purchase a mattress protector with the new bed/mattress to activate the return policy. So take the extra price of a mattress protector into account and add that to the total cost of your new bed.

Luckily The Mattress Warehouse has a great return policy. Check it out for yourself (as well as the return policies of other retailers if you are interested in buying a bed from someone else). When is the right time to buy a mattress or bed?

Well if you’re waiting for a bed sale, holidays and shopping days is normally the best time to do it. Let’s take a look at some of the best times to look for beds for sale in South Africa.

Black Friday

As already mentioned, the best bed sales are probably in the weeks around Black Friday. What started out as a shopping day in the States quickly became a worldwide hit! And if you follow all of the tips we described above, you’ll see that many retailers start easing off on their prices in the week leading up to, and after Black Friday.

And as part of the Black Friday bundle, you get Cyber Monday. It entails massive online sales on the Monday after Black Friday.

New Year’s Day

Plenty of big stores has New Year’s sales. And even though plenty of people are fairly broke after the holidays, it might definitely be worth saving up some money to buy that bed after the festive season.

Seasonal Bed Sales

When new stock for a new season comes into shops, they often have clearance sales to make space for the new stock. So use those newsletters to keep track of when your favourite bed shops have seasonal sales.

PS. The Mattress Warehouse is running a winter sale right now.
